Amy Brook Snider

          Amy Brook Snider lived with her parents, Silas and Clara, and younger sister Jenny in Sunnyside until she was seventeen.  She attended PS 150 and JHS 125, and went on to study art at Music and Art High School with several others from the neighborhood.  A marriage to Joel Shapiro, another Sunnyside resident, ended in divorce.  They have a daughter, Ivy Shapiro Crewdson. 

 

          Amy taught art, grades Kindergarten through High School, in several New York City public schools, including at Music and Art.  In 1979, she began to teach, and then, chair the Art and Design Education Department at Pratt Institute.  She is now Professor Emerita since her retirement in 2014 and currently conducts Professional Development workshops, writes, and works for educational reform.
