At P.S. 150, every week we would put some money into a little brown envelope and hand it in to our teacher along with the Long Island City Savings Bank passbook issued to each participating student.  The book would be returned to us the following week with the funds and interest accrued entered into the book.  It was a pretty exciting event in our school week!
