After Junior High School 125, I went on to Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. I studied history at Columbia University, and received my MA and PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, in French Economic History.
From 1970 to 2013, I taught history at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, continuing to teach as an emeritus until this past spring when Covid-19 shut everything down.
I have lived for more than 45 years in small towns north of Boston with my wife, Ruth. Following a tradition begun by my father with a Victory Garden behind our 44th Street home, I enjoy growing a few vegetables. We’ve expanded our horizons on visits to our son, Jeremy, and three grandsons who live in Myanmar (Burma).
